DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
Among the first 5 initial launch titles for the NEOGEO system in 1990 was a
MAHJONG game. And by 1991, the game library already had 3 MAHJONG games. A 4th
was released in 1994, and the last was released in 1995. (although this final
title was limited to the NEOGEO CD console.)
All 5 of these Mahjong games were 100% compatible and playable with the
standard NEOGEO controller. However, they can also be played with a special
auxiliary (sold seperately) Mahjong Controller. The controller is rare and
hard to find, but it is not completely out of reach and can be purchased at
Japan game shops and online shopping sites.
The game of Mahjong is very popular in Japan as well as several other parts
of the world. However, since some of the tiles used in the game have Chinese
symbols, a minimum understanding of the characters, coupled with a basic
knowledge of how to play Mahjong itself, is required for the game to be
"playable" and thus enjoyable.
Here is a PICTURE of the NEOGEO Mahjong Controller.
